In Illinois, there is no requirement or restriction for a doula to have a certification in order to practice. However, many doulas become certified in order to become more competitive in the job market. Additionally, Illinois does not require a high school, college, or equivalent degree in order to work in the state.
The following is a list of educational classes and resources available in the Illinois area which can be used for your doula training. Please read the details carefully to determine if the classes are affiliated or required for a particular certification granting organization. You do not have to be pursuing a certification in order to attend these classes, however, you do need to be at least 18 years or older in order to participate.
