Postpartum Doula Training in Oregon

Oregon is a state which allows postpartum doulas to practice without a certification.  In other words, there is no state requirement for you to become certified. However, some doulas do seek a certificate in order to become more qualified for future jobs. Additional, there is no requirement in Oregon to have a high school or university degree in order to work.

Course and Workshop Details and Requirements

This is a 3 day training workshop for women interested in becoming a postpartum doula.  This workshop satisfies the workshop portion of a DONA postpartum doula certification.  You can attend and receive training even if you are not enrolled with DONA, however you will have to bring proof that you have completed a breastfeeding class.  The workshop is offered on July 1-3, 2017.

The cost for the postpartum doula workshop is $675.  If you register early, the price is $575.  There is a deposit.

Course and Workshop Details and Requirements

In order to apply to the postpartum doula certification program, you must attend a Birthingways-approved workshop called “Postpartum Doula: Supporting Transitions After Birth”. After applying to the program, you must register as a member, enroll in the college, and finish the coursework to receive your certification.

Course and Workshop Topics
As part of your postpartum doula training, these classes will cover the following:

  • Discuss the various responsibilities of a postpartum doula 
  • Learn how to provide care for both the new mother and infant
  • Discuss the physical aspects of the postpartum period, such as hormonal changes.
  • Understand the different mood disorders that can occur after childbirth
  • Learn how to provide breastfeeding support to the mother
  • Receive training on how to manage your business
  • Discuss the standards of practice, ethics, and the certification process for Birthingway
