Postpartum Doula Training in North Carolina

North Carolina is a state which has no certification requirement for you to work as a postpartum doula.  Furthermore, there is no state requirement to have a college degree or equivalent to be able to work in the state.

The following is a list of educational classes or resources offered in the North Carolina area which may be used as your postpartum doula training. Course and Workshop Details and Requirements

This is a 18 hour postpartum doula training workshop.  This workshop will span 2 days and is required for certification through CAPPA.  The workshop is offered on May 5-6, 2017 from 8:30AM – 6:30PM each day.

The cost for the postpartum doula training workshop is $450.  The price for late registration is $500.

This is a 1 day (10 hour) postpartum doula training workshop from July 23, 2016.  Completion of this workshop will fulfill the ProDoula postpartum doula workshop requirement.

Costs and Fees
The 1 day postpartum doula training workshop is $395.  There is a membership fee of $75 for the first year and $50 for subsequent years if you get certified through ProDoula.

Course and Workshop Details and Requirements

The 3 day, 27 hour, workshop will meet the requirements for the attendance of a DONA approved postpartum doula workshop.  However, membership with DONA is not required to attend this workshop.

Prerequisites

Before attending the workshop, you must read at least one book from each of the following three categories from the DONA required reading list:  Becoming a Mother, The Newborn, and Breastfeeding.

Course and Workshop Topics
As part of your postpartum doula training, these classes will cover the following:

  • Discuss the basic roles of a postpartum doula
  • Learn the signs of physical and emotional changes in the mother after giving birth
  • Discuss how to communicate and provide education for parents
  • Understand how to provide breastfeeding and bottle support
  • Learn proper infant care techniques
  • Receive training in how to market yourself as a doula
  • Understand how to help older siblings and other family members adjust to the newborn
  • Discuss the ethics and the standards of practice for certification from DONA

The 3 day DONA-approved workshop costs $475.  There is a discount of $50 if you register early.
