Wisconsin is a state which does not require you to have a certification to work.  There are both certified and uncertified birth doulas working in the state because becoming certified is strictly voluntary.

Course and Workshop Details and Requirements
Each session will include the following:

  • 1 day Introduction course to Childbirth for Doulas (required part of DONA certification)
  • 3 day, 16 hour Birth doula training workshop (required part of DONA certification)

Course and Workshop Topics
As part of your doula training, these courses will cover the following:

  • Determine your role during prenatal, labor, and early postpartum periods
  • Use hands on methods to practice comfort techniques
  • Demonstrate positions during labor
  • Recognize the various emotional needs of the mother
  • Offering information to the mother to aid her decision making
  • Learn to communicate with other healthcare providers
  • Discuss the process of the certification
